Hello Ned!
Welcome to the board. You are a wreck lover of some standing, & you are MOST welcome fella! Sorry I was not here earlier. This board is pretty slow, & frankly my eyes glazed over with all that action about the Merc Benz in Honkers ......
If I may help you with the USS Aaron Ward in anyway, feel free.
No planes on your list? No B17 Blackjack? Greatest known aircraft wreck? 40m down, crew rescued by local tribe to avoid capture by the Japanese - story made into a film? No?
What about a sub? Say The Rubis - off St. Tropez? That has a rather interesting history. It was finally sunk as a gunnery target.
I assume you have a copy of 'Wrecks The World's Best Dives' by Trainito - published White Star Publishers?
Don't worry, I will still buy your book - you MUST fill us in on this as you go along.
Truly fascinating. Again, welcome.

Hello Guys
My apologies. Seems I got my email address wrong when try to put it in code so that it would not be picked up by all those global machines which operate to collect such things.
I should have written; ned "at" nedmiddleton "dot" demon "dot" co "dot" uk
Would be great to correspond with those of you who want to know something about some of the wrecks I have dived or want to share experiences of your own.
Thanks again.
Ned
Ned - you can use the PM functionality if you like.
globaltourist - there is also a jeep and some large bore pipework :-)

philk - rivetting stuff fella! - have you sat at the wheel of this veritable underwater motorcade?

I heard that the Bikini atoll is now marketed as a wreck diving destination... several almost intact WWII battle ships and aircraft carriers, at reasonable depth... (they were decommissioned by exploding a nuclear device over the lagoon).... and amazingly you don't even get a Geiger counter included in your kit...

Not yet, but next time I am there I will take a photo for you (I can sense your excitement)
As for Bikini - can you dive the Saratoga?
USS Saratoga
I know they put a load of animal on board all the ships before they detonated, to see what the effect would be. I hear the radiation has indirectly led to a flourishing of the reefs and marine life around there (indirectly by making it off bounds for many years until recently). Anyone been who can confirm either?

I have spoken with several divers who have done the Saratoga - I've seen quite a few shots of the Bikini wrecks & they are awesome
The islanders don't live there - the coconut crabs are apparently still radioactive
Last I heard there's a waiting list for Bikini - I don't know if that's true - but they don't have much accommodation facilities there for sure
There's a web site run by the dive op there
The technical aspect has put me off, they recommend certain types of computers etc. although it's bottom is about 52m.

klaus - you do have to read some radioative manual apparently
There's a beautiful sub there too & a lot of sharks
I feel I should alos point out that to do this 10 dive package at Bikini from the UK is somewhere in the region of 6k
For that money I could give PNG for a month & have change
philk - I am positively wetting myself at the prospect of seeing you driving this underwater druggie car!
Ned - Jado Trader - a wreck out of the Bay Is Honduras - that was apparently also a drug running ship & the signature wreck of the Bay Is. I haven't dived it sadly, but the photos I've seen it looks lovely. Railing remind me of shots of the Giannis D I saw today.
