Hello,
If anyone has dived in both Neil and Havelock Islands in the Andamans (India) can you please tell me which is better?

I'm an experienced diver, and especially interested in macro life and good quality of corals, although a dugong or manta or shark is always appreciated as well!

Thanks for any input!

Hmm...that didn't get too many replies! OK...maybe I can re-phrase it...

Is there anyone who has dived at EITHER Havelock or Neil Island in the Andaman Islands who can give me pointers - when you were there, your favourite dive sites, what you saw there, which dive shop you went with, how long your dives were (i.e. was there a maximum time limit to dives), how big your dive groups were, a particularly eagle-eyed guide you'd recommend ... these are the specific questions I'm interested in.

Thanks!

Most dive boats leave from Havelock, I have spent time on Neil but dont remember any dive operators there, great place though. I would recommend you head to south button island for some of tthe best macro life you will ever see. I also recommend you go with Laccadives In Havelock and try and get out with Samir.

Hi offie1, thanks so much for your reply! that's really helpful...someone else on a different website also recommended South Button so I will definitely try to make it out there. Also really great to know about the macro life and that Samir at Laccadives is a good guide.
Many thanks!

Anyone else out there got some impressions/ recommendations I'd still love to hear from you!

Cheers!

This is what I learnt online. I've never been to Andamans, but planning to go in March for a Scuba course.

Neil and Havelock are both great places.

Havelock has better facilities and is a bigger island. The beach #7 is supposed to be the best in Asia. Of course, this also means lots of tourists.

I understand that the best dive schools in Havelock are DiveIndia and Barefoot Scuba. Both of them have great reviews. DiveIndia is the oldest DiveSchool in Andamans and their divers have discovered most of the top dive sites around havelock.

DiveIndia has now opened shop in Neil too. There is one more small dive school called IndiaScubaExplorers.com (run by Johann - 09474238646). My friend has dived with these guys and she recommends them highly.

Neil is much more laid back as compared to Havelock (but really havelock is pretty slow), you probably will get a better Instructor to Student ratio because most people go to Havelock. For a beginner, that's good.

Neil also has lots of new dive sites, and people have just started explorining the area. You will be one of the first few to do so along with the dive centers.

You will not go wrong with either option.Andamans are supposed to very beautiful. I personally would probably go for Havelock, because my wife is a non diver and she may a few more things to do in Havelock (but not many)
