As a kid, listening to Ummagumma, these words meant sod all to me. Well,
thanks to Google there's illumination at last. Good to see them in print, I reckon

This may be old but I just discovered it and thought others might like a look.

On the Road by Jack Kerouac comes in at #1 and it is a really good travel book.

After listening to his interview on NPR ,I bought and read "Tokyo Vice" by Jake Adelstein ( Pantheon Books,2009 ). I think it says a lot about America's sleaze and corruption as it does about Japans. As a Californian ,I am appalled that the University of California callously participated in sales of organ transplants to gangsters !

Not sure if this is the right thread but does anyone know why, in Bollywood films, they use sporadic English words when there are surely Hindi words for the same thing?

I watched 'Om Shanti Om' last night, which is pretty much all in Hindi but sometimes they would say certain words in English like 'thank you', 'nice', 'cat' and sometimes whole phrases. I can understand why this is the case when they are 'imported' or very modern English phrases but not for everyday nouns and stuff. And then…
