Hi,

I'm setting off for some Euro adventures in a few weeks. Really looking forward to spending quite a bit of time lazing in hostels, parks, cafes and bars after exploring, with a couple of good books to read. I wouldn't describe myself as a literature buff in any form, but I feel a need for something to get stuck into whilst I rest my wandering feet/liver/senses.

A friend has given me "Killing Yourself to Live" by Chuck Closterman, which looks quite amusing. I'm also looking for something…

Here in the States, father's day is coming up.

I'm looking for a book recommendation for my Dad, a nearly 80 retiree. He is a voracious reader, and I'm running out of ideas. He likes biographies, spy/espionage, and history books (faulker especially).

This book: Agent Zigzag is the last book I gave him. He thought it was brilliant.

Do you have anything to recommend? Other than ballroom dancing with my mom, he really doesn't have any hobbies. He is a retired MD and still very interested…

It's absolutely dreadful. If you rent it, don't say I didn't warn you.

Ridiculous, stilted dialogue, a stupid obvious plot that's supposed to be reminiscent of a Greek tragedy and wooden acting by two good actors, Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. The female leads are both awful actresses. It has all the dramatic tension of overcooked pasta. The overwrought Phillip Glass overwhelmed the flimsy movie. Woody Allen has a tin ear when it comes to dialogue and should avoid drama altogether.

is completely overrated IMO. I watched it last night since there was so much hype about how 'brilliant' it is. About 4 times me or my boyfriend were yelling at the tv 'for gods sake, something happen please!!'.

You know what - I think they did all that jumping around with dates etc to at least keep your brain from shutting down to sleep mode. If they hadn't of done that, they could have made it a short 10 minute film and then it maybe would have been worth my time.

(no need to weep, next year it's being renamed the "global roots festival", ho-hum)
so get your tickets and I'll see you at the cedar!

What were the best songs of the 70's? There were the Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Bee Gees and many more. What were your favourites?

  1. American Pie - Don McClean
  2. The Piano Man Billy Joel
  3. Let It Be - The Beatles
  4. I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
  5. Stayin Alive - The Bee Gees
  6. Take Me HomeCountry Roads - John Denver
  7. Looking Out My Backdoor - Creedence Clearwater Revival
  8. Hotel California - The Eagles
  9. Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkle
  10. Dancing Queen - Abba

There's no problem that can't be ignored if we really put our minds to it.

The TV Show "army wives" is starting in NZ soon and as is being promoted as "if you like Grey's Anatomy you will love Army Wives". Made by the same people as Greys etc etc.

Has anyone in Thorntreeworld seen it? What is it like? If I like Grey's Anatomy is the show they type of thing that I could get into?

One thing that makes me nervous is the fact it is about the Army. Does it come across contrived (as though the creators were making a show about an "issue" rather than actually a show in…

Hi everyone...
I'm here in a desperate attempt to organise some transport to Glastonbury.
There are two of us travelling from Scotland (Edinburgh/Glasgow) aiming to leave on the Wednesday morning (early!) so we're there nicely in time for the gates and to get a good pitch!
Is there anyone else here travelling down?? Do you know someone who is going down and has room for some extra bums in their car/bus/campervan?? We're hoping doing things this way will mean it makes it a cheaper journey for…
