I’ve never been a fan of opera and in fact could probably be described as actively disliking it on account of the rather OTT nature of the arrangements. For me it’s over well before the fat lady starts up.

However, in a local café the other day I found my self surprised to be enjoying a delightful and uplifting number to accompany my milk tea.

It featured rich strings describing distinctly Italian scales and an occasional non-intrusive word-less female vox.

Can any of you point me in the…

Indiana Jones - truly terrible with no redeeming features at all.
Shutter - predictable, crap plot & pointless
Iron man - better than expected
Sex & the city - rubbish
21 - rubbish
The square - not bad at all
Stop-loss - not much for war films but this one was really good, very gripping.
Kungfu panda - hilarious

Can you tell I've been on long haul flights...

Hi everyone,

I'm currently researching a book about backpackers based on my own two-year trip from 2006-08. At the moment I'm looking at the reasons people go backpacking, so here's my question:

Why did you decide to go?

I'm looking for a new angle on this, so I'd love to hear other people's stories!

Thanks a lot to anyone who wants to contribute!

Kate

"I was trekking over the Milke Danda toward Taplejung. ... It was very clear and fine and soon I caught sight of Kangchenjunga. I've often seen the Himalayas take on an ethereal appearance as they seem to float above the horizon. As I looked at Kangchenjunga, I could not believe that I could possibly be in the same place, at the same time, as anything so utterly beautiful. Then I saw fire-tailed sunbirds drinking nectar from the rhododendrons. Superficially they are like hummingbirds. They were

Am I getting dull? I have to ask myself. Each morning I "pick up" the online papers for... er... "news".
Does that sound familiar? War, weather, sports and politics, day in, day out... and they call it "news".
Hello? Ground control to Major Tom? Current affairs, perhaps, in the world of those engaged in such
activities, though nothing new in my book. In a world based on quantum physics life seems suspicously
predictable to slackers like myself.Today I thought I'd do something about it and so I…

I bought this CD yesterday. It'a amazing. Possibly the best CD I've bought in the last ten years. He's from Uganda but now lives in France. His father was assassinated by Idi Amin. Geoffrey was smuggled out of the country in the boot of a car. His music is pure joy.
