Tierra del Fuego
(there used to be transpolar flights between both places)
Ushuaia is the name of the town.

oops - we've well and truly overshot Adelaide.

The aim is to return to Adelaide in one trip! So let's back up to:

Temora

Isn't Sidney west of Adelaide?

I take your point. Sydney is in fact east of Adelaide. In fact, never should have gone backwards to Pingtung in Taiwan....

so do you want to take it back to Olongapo and go from there?

East is what I meant. I guess in my mind "Closer to California" = further west.

I think you should travel closer to the equator -- there's too much ocean so far south and a corresponding lack of place names. Before I put Sydney, I checked a map and discovered that the R place was also east of Adelaide, so I considered it a loop going around to Adelaide.

So where are we up to?

P?

Not closer to the equator, but the same distance or so north. We pretty much avoided the Eurasian land mass except for the bits dangling off to the south.

But if the question was let's see if can we get back to Adelaide in one trip, I think we've answered it. No.
