I'd give my vote for two two from #18 post, Johnny Winter and Peter Green. Sadly, none of them is capable of holding the guitar, not even mentioning playing it.

So, I'm giving my vote to:
Paco de Lucia
Al di Meola

Peter Green's still playing and touring. He was at Byron Bluesfest in Australia last month. I don't think anyone else was holding his guitar for him. Dunno about Johnny Winter - is he not well? Not that he ever looked the picture of health

Anyway, none of the guys on these lists are "rock n rollers" with the possible exception of Keith Richards

They're most white 60s blues boom guitarists with the odd jazzer or heavy rawk shredder thrown in

I saw Peter Green some ten years ago. That was his comeback after many years of absence. He had decent backing guitarists who did the job, and he just walked along the stage with his guitar, hardly making any sound.
The guy used to have serious mental problems for quite some time.

Johnny Winter, another comeback about the same time, and about the same disappointment. He'd lost most of his skills and his voice. He looked like an old retiree from elderly people's home.
Someone said, he had fallen off the stage once, and broke his pelvis. That would explain why he looked so clumsy.

Saw Johnny Winter about 4 years ago at a very small venue.
He is elderly and decrepit.
He did his best, but he is clearly too old to do it anymore.

He wouldn't be any older than BB King would he?

Peter Green has done small solo shows recently in my home town and was well-received - I didn't go but know people who did

I don't know how old either of them is, I just know that on that night Winter looked well past being on a stage in front of people.

Fair enough, I like seeing the old stagers even if they're not at their dazzling youthful best.

I saw Johnny Winters in 1978 and I wouldn't have bet on him even being alive in 2010

We are being a bit picky on who is a rock and roller, and who is not aren't we?

Glad to see someone mentioned Pete Townshend! The man is a legend.
Personally I think great guitarists aren't necessarily technical virtuosos (though obviously this helps), as long as they have feel/creativity...
* Chuck Berry
* John Fogarty
* Bo Diddley
* Link Wray
