Looking at the planet and how the americans have treated it in the last 50 years, with CIA interferences or outright wars in several dozen states to get rid of governments that have refused to the US's bidding, certainly shows enough justification to draw a straight line from then to now.
The Judge in Blood Meridian is the archetypical ancestor of many of the present politicians and military commanders.
Instead of keeping on butchering one another, americans have kept their tradition, that violence is the best possible solution for problems, for their dealings with the rest of the world.
The next war, against Iran this time, unless Georgia and Ukraine become more urgent, will not go down that easy. The time of the superpower status of the US is already in decline. It is much too late already for the US to secure their energy supply with weapons.
Others are faster, more efficient and use more intelligent methods that primitive violence.
Brutality will get you only so far, and its time has passed.....

That is what makes Blood Meridian, and several other McCarthy books, such a brilliant history books.

#30, you are a certified idiot. There is no need to keep demonstrating that reality.

Wholesale scalpings with the odd dash of dismemberment and dollops of gratuitous slaughter

and all described lyrically and in a straighforward manner.... I'd replace 'dollops' with 'a hearty serving'.
