The Darjeeling Limited

Interest forums / Culture Vultures

I'm off to see this tonight (providing it doesn't rain - Moonlight Cinema).. Has anybody seen it and what did you think (without spoilers)?

In the words of Mission of Burma: "Good, not Great".

A leaky bag of wankjuice. Haven't seen it though, so qualify my judgement accordingly.

I normally LOVE wes anderson films. Just thought this one was one of his poorer movies. His portrayal of India was at times completely LUDICROUS and only something an American who has NO clue could have conjured up. At other times in the film he was spot on. I mean this in the cultural perspective.... if you want valid examples I am more than happy to respond.

Therefore it was good, not great.

I really enjoyed the nostalgia, the small glimpes of Indian culture, the wardrobe, the music, the cinematography. The story was just a tale - it was interesting enough, with a few laughs along the way.

No thanks truckstop, I've also spent some time in India and don't need the lecture.
I'd agree it was good but not great, and ultimately worth seeing.

I pretty much agree with the above. Though, as far as realistic portrayals of India in Western-made movies, this is about as good as I've seen. (Which admittedly isn't saying much.) -SPOILER ALERT- Anyway, I get that the whole 'sweet lime' thing would never, ever happen. But it was also my experience that it was remarkably easy for a clueless Westerner like myself to walk into a temple and get involved in the proceedings. So, for the sake of curiosity, I guess this is an open invitation to TSH to commence lecturing on the cultural inaccuracies of the film...
