Duffy - Mercy.

But, why do they have to call it new Amees? At least this new one doesn't seem to be in need of rehab.

Ugh. I've only seen the "Mercy" video, but I don't get what is supposed to be so great about her. It's like "bubble-gum soul", or something.

The song itself is boilerplate 1960s R&B; a very catchy tune, but mind-numbingly repetitive, both musically and lyrically. There's nothing really soulful or heart-wrenching about it. And her vocals are over-produced to the point where I don't see how anyone can judge it properly.

I'm not familiar with Duffy's music, but as far as contemporary bands goes, you can't beat the voice of Lisa Kekaula (sp?) from the BellRays. I would sell my soul to be able to sing like that... plus she's one of the most charismatic performers I've ever seen...

Lisa Kekaula - yes, great voice. Reminds me of both Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin, or something between. Her voice is much rockier though.

"Mercy" reminds me a bit of Aretha's "See-Saw" , which is good, except the singer sounds like she's on helium

I'm with you, Nerb

I can't work out what's "soulful" about a squeaky blonde who bounces up & down in time to Casiotone

Lizz Wright has a soulful voice
