"Silent Light"....or "Stellet Licht"Interest forums / Culture Vultures
I saw this movie recently....by Mexican filmaker Carlos Reygadas. It's the quietest, most non-action packed movie I've ever seen. It takes place in a Mennonite Community in northern Mexico and it's in the idiosyncratic German of that community. Instead of action and dialogue, there are gorgeous, long, lingering shots of the magnificent countryside. While I almost couldn't take the slow pace a few times, and the ending was a bit odd, it's really one of my favourite movie experiences of all time. Anyone seen it? If so, what did you think?
Definitely among my all-time top 5. So many spellbinding scenes. As attention spans get shorter and shorter it's a great statement as the antithesis of a Hollywood blockbuster. | 1
Speaking of odd sex scenes, which we weren't but ...... check out the sex scene in "Samsara". The perpetrators obviously subscribed to "Popular Mechanics" magazine. Lovely movie. | 2
I must check out Japon and Samsara. | 3
This guy is my favorite mexican director. Japon is definitely worth a watch as is Battle in Heaven which i thought was also excellent. However, with Stellet Licht, Reygada's has fine tuned his craft. Pity | 4
