"Silent Light"....or "Stellet Licht"

I saw this movie recently....by Mexican filmaker Carlos Reygadas. It's the quietest, most non-action packed movie I've ever seen. It takes place in a Mennonite Community in northern Mexico and it's in the idiosyncratic German of that community. Instead of action and dialogue, there are gorgeous, long, lingering shots of the magnificent countryside.

While I almost couldn't take the slow pace a few times, and the ending was a bit odd, it's really one of my favourite movie experiences of all time.

Anyone seen it? If so, what did you think?

Definitely among my all-time top 5. So many spellbinding scenes. As attention spans get shorter and shorter it's a great statement as the antithesis of a Hollywood blockbuster.
I've also seen 'Japon' which was interesting (and has the oddest sex scene I've ever seen) but not as good.

Speaking of odd sex scenes, which we weren't but ...... check out the sex scene in "Samsara". The perpetrators obviously subscribed to "Popular Mechanics" magazine. Lovely movie.

This guy is my favorite mexican director. Japon is definitely worth a watch as is Battle in Heaven which i thought was also excellent. However, with Stellet Licht, Reygada's has fine tuned his craft. Pity
he doesn't have abundant funds like his other mexican buddies. Although their talents pale in comparison.
I love how Reygada's deals with all sexuality. If you loved Japon for
the quirky sex, definitely see Battle.
