"Nordwand " (2008) which has been released in some places as "North Face" is an excellant adventure movie based upon the actual 1936 events. It is one of the best acted and photographed climbing dramas ever made .None of the fictional additions to the real story detract in the least from the movie's capture of a time and place that really isn't that far away . Don't miss it in the theatre !

Saw it on dvd about a month back. Very good, and as you say, the climbing shots are amazing. It's impossible to see where CGI or whatever comes in as it really does look like they're on the north face. I knew the bare bones of the ascent, and was half aware that potentially the background from the Reich point of view was embelished, but like you say, it doesn't detract from what is a gripping film.
