Thanks Monteray Jack. I'm glad it wasn't the sandwich.

To be honest, I only know about Mama Cass from that time her animated character appeared on Scooby Doo.

Agree, TP, not immediately obvious. Webs can be harsh. After all, it's been quite a few years since the Mamas and Poppas were in our consciousnesses.

Well to be academic and pedantic about it for your edification and amusement, John Phillips, the leader of the Mamas and the Papas, was the person who came up with and pulled off the Festival that weekend in Monterey which was so timely and well received.

It collected most everyone who was hot and adventurous who had not met because they had widely different places they performed and were being booked.
Ravi Shankar, Jimi Hendrix, Who, Janis and Big Brother, Brian of The Stones, Otis Redding... the list goes on as they say.
Like a really good party, it brought together in one place people who were excited to meet each other and who had something really fun to say to each other.

Apart from folk and jazz festivals like Newport Jazz, this created what soon became a vast concert business generating millions of dollars .
Rock and Roll really took off. Stoners to the left of them stoners to the right.

I was in town the year before and the year after, but that summer I was in Boston and missed it. Dang.
