In an Instant by Bob and Lee Woodruff

Most of you have heard about ABC anchor Woodruff's close brush with death in Iraq. The army vehicle that he and his tech crew were embedded with was struck by an explosive device during an afternoon patrol in January '06. He barely survived and was in a coma for some six weeks. His subsequent struggle to overcome a brain injury (amongst other wounds) is the focus of this compelling book, cleverly co-authored with his wife Lee. Readers may also want to check out 'The Man Who Lost Himself', written by the late great June Callwood. This true story also chronicles the struggles to deal with a brain injury suffered by Canadian football legend Terry Evanshen, victim of a car accident 20 years ago. Both books detail the difficulties faced by two brave families. I was impressed with the Woodruffs' honesty in addressing a key point head-on: at waht point should ambitious folks with dangerous assignments put family first?
