Hey,

I'm doing a little bit of research and i'm wondering if films have ever influenced your travel plans, or may they in the future? I'm particularly interested in films relating to Greece but any films which may or have influenced you would be of interest. Also what is it about the films which motivate you?

Thank you for helping.
:)

I'd have to say no its the other way around for me. I would decide to go somewhere and then decide to watch a movie set there, the nearer I get to my departure date.

Then again, if I've been somewhere and then watch a movie, the movie might trigger something that makes me want to go back. The thing that is the trigger is a weird thing though. For example, it could be something they are eating, an advert in the background or a change in the place I've been or wanting to know if its still the same.

For example I'm going to southend next week and the image I have is taken from about 17 years ago. Which by coincidence looks like the way it did in the Morrissey video. So I'm curious to see if its the same.

It's funny, I made a comment about PS I Love You yesterday to a friend - I said I wonder how many women flocked to Ireland looking for love after watching it

No movie has ever inspired me to go looking for something I don't have at home - but - scenery and architecture I see in screen locations can make me want to investigate a place to see if there's more there I might be interested in

Movies always make places seem more....romantic or poetic or something even if they aren't - when you look into a place further, sometimes you find there's more and sometimes it seems like what you saw in the movie was the best that place has to offer

Only in the sense that if the country, or part thereof, features in a Hollywood blockbuster and becomes all the rage I'll visit it after the anticipated rush is long over.

if there is a movie made somewhere in a country it´s for me the signal-don´t go there- once they make a famous movie somewhere the place will be ruined within a few years, too many tourists everybody wants to go there...
an example is "the beach" with leonardo di caprio

for greece the most famous movie is "sorbas the greek" this sort of lifestyle is long gone ,... maybe on small islands away from the main season those vibes can be around

  • Zorba the Greek, Never on Sunday, and "Z" are all fascinating movies, although it may be true enough that they don't correlate that much to contemporary Greece (not sure whether "Z" is pursuant to today's political scene there very much or not, since I don't know enough about it) ... Anyway they're more up-to-date than "Clash of the Titans" haw haw haw ...

  • Sometimes a movie can make you have a sudden rush of desire to go to a certain place ... Like the beginning of "To Sir With Love" when the song plays and you see the double deckers go by and Poitier riding the bus to start teaching and everything ... It always makes me want to be in London again, but then the moment passes ... By the way that reminds me: How DO you thank someone who's taken you from crayons to perfume (ahem!) ?!? Still trying to get an answer to that one ...

Write across the sky in letters that would soar a thousand feet high "To Sir....With Love" ?

I also love films that relate to Greece and Egypt but have never thought of traveling there...
