Did Singapore make travellers cut their hair?Interest forums / Culture Vultures
I heard that in the 70s, Singapore made backpackers cut their hair!! Does anyone remember this or instances in other countries where backpackers were 'unwelcome' or hindered in traveling?

I do remember that Singapore did have some crazy laws for a while OP, and banning long hair was one of them. | 4
Dunno for sure, but a a lot of 70s backpackers from Australia got their hair cut short just in case. The story was that you'd be refused entry with long unkempt hair but offered a chance to get your hair cut. | 5
Morocco did it. | 6 | |

Disneyland didn't used to let in men with long hair and beards. Good old Walt believed those people would only raise trouble. | 8
Employees still have major restrictions, but Disneyland Paris was obliged to relax quite a few of the employee rules. Nevertheless, facial hair is much more likely in Adventureland than in other areas. | 9
The rule regarding the hairdo and facial hair wasn't limited to employees, but included visitors as well. | 10
doesn't Disneyland have an annual goth-day out every year now...how things have changed. getting back to the 70s and backpackers, is alot of that 'magic bus' - Istanbul-Delhi - 'hassles from the man' just fantasy or did backpackers back then get alot of hassle / hinderance from the authorities? | 11
Well, in 1975 or so a friend of mine was forced to have a haircut when he arrived in Singapore. | 12
