After learning that he'd offed himself by hanging, I went back and checked out some of his non-fiction, which I'd never really read. (Disclosure: I once chanced upon a freshly hung corpse on an early morning walk in Goa, and this method of self-negation has since held a particular horror for me.)

In these ADHD times, I know that most of you will not take the time to read this article, but the second half gets into some really deep stuff that I have largely avoided thinking about lately, although I did read Peter Singer in college.

The brilliance of the piece is the dexterity with which it makes you think without repelling you from thinking.

I just reread that one the other night.

Today I went back to "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never do Again"....his hilarious piece about the week he spent
as a guest on a cruise ship.

Is that you, Clark?
What happened to your original moniker?

yep, it's me. When LP asked us to change passwords...or re-register...or whatever it was, I couldn't remember which e-mail address I'd used when I joined here as Clark Dubya.

so it was easier just to sign up with a new moniker.

as for Wallace, I recently read Infinite Jest (I had abandoned it once or twice in the past) and asked a friend to send me the two collection of essays (Consider the Lobster and A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again) so I could reread some of the better ones.

I'd just been wondering what the man was up to lately...when we might see another collection of non-fiction..when I heard that he'd committed suicide.
