What's the album? I tried googling & only found "Damned Right I've Got the Blues" by Buddy Guy.

That line up is an embarrassment of riches!

You know, there is NO moratorium on the amount of times I can listen to BB King's "The Thrill is Gone" -- over&over&over&over again.

This all be my personal blues list, not a CD you can find. And this be my personal blues song: 'Ain't Nobody Wanna' Read My Script'.

Ain't nobody wanna' read my script.
Not even one teeny, tiny bit.
Went to see the agent man.
Went to see the agent man.
He say, "Come back next week.
Maybe then I give you a little peek."
So I came back that next week.
Such a long, long way to go.
Neighbour lady said, "He move to Buffalo."

zebec, that's the list di tutti lists. Admitting to a bit of ignorance here ~~ even though I've been a Leadbelly fan for eons, I didn't recognize "Red Bird". Just went & listened to a snippet at Amazon.com. Fabulous song. I come from very near Angola, La., where Leadbelly was pardoned by Gov. O.K. Allen on the strength of his music.

Love your personal blues song, although it made me sad.

I use Red Bird as one of the songs for my special needs kids to hear during music class. They invariably love that song and we also create some art around it, each of of them making their own unique red bird. As for that script, I jest about it here coz I've mentioned its existence on CV many times. Called 'Sweet Freedom', it is a biopic about Harriet Tubman of Underground Railroad fame. I'm something of an authority on her so when my wife and I wrote this, our first-ever script, we had quite an advantage. But we have spent 2 yrs now, just trying to get someone, anyone in Hollywood to read it---such a closed shop!

How did you get to be an authority on Harriet Tubman? Do you live near a terminus of the Underground Railroad? Boy, she would be a fascinating subject for a motion picture.

Wonderful how you've introduced Leadbelly all these decades later to a new and truly sincere audience.

Think Richland Women by Mississippi John Hurt (or David Johannsen & the Harry Smiths) should be in that list even if you already have a song by him.

If only for the immortal line :

Red rooster say, “Cock a doodle do do”
Richland women say, “Any dude will do”

& whatever happened to Howlin' Wolf ? I would suggest Down In The Bottom though there are lots of other great contenders.

& Bessie Smith ? Sonny Terry ? Janis Joplin ? Peter Green ?
