BBC: Narnia franchise continues voyage How many Narnia books are they?
There are 7 volumes in the Chronicles of Narnia. | 1
But they're skipping some - for example they skipped the first book - and the third or fourth one as well. | 2
really? will the story flow? i ahve not read any of the books.... what do you guys think of the first two movies? | 3
Yeah the story can flow because the books are about Narnia not just the characters from the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (though some of the books to focus on them). For example the first book which was not made into a film is about the guy who's house the 4 kids from the Lion... go to who, as a kid, ends up in Narnia. | 4
There is a relevance to the other books (for example in that first book you find out how the Ice Queen found herself in Narnia) but they're not necissary to the main plot. It's well worth reading the books. | 5
thanks, ToadofToadHall. i'm sure they are all good books, i just need to get myself to reading them....so many books, so little time....;p or i can wait for the movies, lol.... | 6
I loved the books as a child and then a librarian told me the Christian symbolism. I loved Tilda Swinton as the White Witch. | 7
Haven't seen the 2nd one, although the MIssus and daughter have and they enjoyed it. Liked the first one. | 8
I read the books as a child too and loved them. It's only when I started reading them to my own children that I realized there was Christian symbolism in them. | 9
did it bother you guys that there were some christian elements in them? a friend who has read the books told me about it too and i went. 'interesting....' | 10
There clearly is a lot of Christian symbolism in the books (and thus films I guess). And though I'm not religious in the least and it annoys me that churches get involved by pushing the Christian factor it doesn't change the fact that they're good books. Take from them what you want. Similarly the bible is a book I've always wanted to read as it has some good stories in it. One or two times I may have thought it was a little over the top on the Christian stuff but overall I just ignore it. | 11
I didn't bother me, but then again, I only noticed the very obvious Aslan=Christ bit. Was there anything else? | 12
Lion = Father Witch = Holy Ghost Warddrobe = Son | 13
It gets more intense as the series progresses - heading east in search of Aslan's land (eden)... | 14
oh, aslan, i somwhow read it as asian....i was like, 'huh, was there an asian in the book/movie?' lol.... | 15
At first it bothered me, b/c as a child I never imagined aslan as jc, just this magical lion. didn't like Caspian the flick as much. Totally cast wrong and what's up with the Spanish accents. | 16
was it really spanish? it was just a weird accent, imho.... | 17
I totally did not understand the symbolism as a kid - they were just good magic stories. As an adult it doesn't bother me. If I read a book set in a land with suspicious similarities to Valhalla, and realized the characters represented Odin and Thor and Loki, I would think it was a clever use of mythology and wouldn't be upset about it. Same with Christian mythology. | 18
