I buy books with an obsessive passion.

Don't they have libraries where ye are?

Yes, they do. But, last I checked, they don't let you keep the books forever.

Obsessive passion is an accurate phrase, trust me.

OK. But they won't order books on request? And why would anyone want to keep most or all of their books?

There are always libraries somewhere near where you're living. I'm a frequent member myself but the convenience of having my favorite books to myself that makes me willing to pay for. LOL.

Tony - Is the meaning of "obsessive passion" for books escaping you? LOL I just love to possess them.

:))

P.S. I have thousands of books at home - but only about 1000 are mine: I deal in books.

Maybe...

My clients collect certain books.

I charge them 10% to 25% of what I pay for the book plus, if he or she buys it, what it costs me to obtain it.

If, say, a client wishes to buy x and the best available x is 5000 miles away, I'll travel and inspect it. If I believe it meets my client's specification, I'll buy it and send it to him or her on approval.

If my client accepts it (and none have refused to date), they pay the cost plus 10-25% plus my flight, hotel or whatever. If he or she declines, I absorb the cost and sell the book on the open market.

My clients are very busy men and women and are happy to pay a premium for a reliable person to meet their exacting specifications.

My business survives by being, if ye like, the exact opposite of eBay.

Is it a good way of doing business? If it is, I will start one and we could be good partners :)

OP, you are certainly not alone.

I own nearly 2000 books. I haven't read about 900 of them.

I am trying to slow down the book buying, because I have been accumulating them faster than I read them, but it's tough going. At the beginning of the year I calculated that if I stopped buying books right there and then and read nothing but my own unread books, it would take me 5 years to finish my to-be-read stack. Since then, I have been reading them slightly faster than I buy them, but only by a small margin. If I had more space, I wouldn't even have considered slowing down.
