art communities in central or south america

Has anyone come across any artist communities in their travels in latin america?

I'm looking for places where aspiring artists can live, draw, paint and be inspired by other artists.

You are basically asking for a place where hippie bitches will let you sleep with them under the pretense that its a "spiritual" or "artistic bonding time". Right.

That's a bit cynical. There is no pretext to my question. I'm an artist looking for a place to thrive in.

San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas has a reputation along those lines. Technically North America I guess but you might want to consider it.
