I'm going to spend a week in Skiathos in September, loafing by the pool, swimming in the sea, stuffing my face with Greek food and reading.

Anyone recommend any books that will help improve my Greek holiday atmosphere? I've already read Captain Corelli's Mandolin+ and +My Family and other Animals – both good for my previous Greek hol – so any new suggestions along those lines much appreciated. Oh, and I have to be able to get hold of a copy within the next two weeks and it has to be in English.

Cheers very much

Middlesex? Part of it is set in Greece, although that has very little to do with the plot.

Thanks for your ideas.I took Lawrence Durrell's Bitter Lemons of Cyprus in the end but should have taken a copy of XL's financial performance 2008 statement and lots of money for my emergency coach-and-ferry-and-Athens-airport trip home instead. Dammit...

The Pillars of Hercules, by Paul Theroux. He sets out on a circumnavigation of the Mediterranean. Im a huge fan of his writing style, and his books are great to read on holidays.
