For the second time in three years, in late July we're travelling from New Zealand to Samoa. Landing at Faleolo Airport early morning then heading to the ferry for an 8am crossing to Savaii where we'll be for 12 days, staying in Fagamalo next door to the Le Lagoto resort. We are thinking of taking some herbs and spices with us along with canned food. Does anyone know whether there are restrictions on taking food into Samoa and if so what they are?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi guys,
after thorough evaluation Ive ultimately decided on traveling Samoa.

Although my travel experinces in Pacific don't include renting car. What is this like in Samoa?

The thing is that besides I have my national driving licence [with signs of European Union], I do hold an international licence as well, better said, the remainder of that - in a quite bad condition however readable. Anyway, can you tell me how strict local authorities are on proving these formalities with respect to renting…

hi friends,

i have a ticket from auckland to fiji in late october, and it seems that there are no good ways that i can find to get to other islands without going back to nz. i'm looking at vanuatu, tonga, samoa, cooks, or anywhere really. i am up for adventure, multi-day ferry rides, sailboats, submarines, cheap flights. cheap. cheap is good.
ideas? i have a month to kill before returning to nz sometime in early december.

I just booked tickets for a trip next year to Tahiti and Easter Island. While I have plenty of info on French Polynesia, I would appreciate recommendations for smaller, local hotels in Easter Island (I'm not interested in the Explora or another large hotel) -- I'd prefer something like a B&B run by a local family. Also, any other information on Easter Island -- we will be there for three full days, flying from Papeete.

I'll also post on the South America branch.

Thanks, Michael

Airlink Crash

Can anybody point me to official news reports/stories about the Airlink crash that has grounded the airline? I've heard conflicting stories about a pilot being grounded and fatalities. Thanks.

Had a terrible stay at the Waterfront Villas in Koror. Although the hotel is located at the sea you can not swimm because there are mangroves and swamps right in front of the hotel. Additionally the hotel is run down and far away from downtown. Even with the bike it takes 25 minutes because it is all uphill. Not to recommend at all!!

Hi,

I am looking for some advice and to hear peoples experiences regarding volunteer teaching -

what did you find the most difficult aspect of it?
what resources did you find most helpful?
what resources/equipment should I bring with me?

I will be in a fairly remote village without much facilities - starting to get a little worried and would like some advice on how best to prepare for this kind of adventure

Thanks for all your help
