What's the best way for a US traveler to handle cash payments in Tonga?

I'm planning on using a major credit card for those places that will accept them.

But for smaller purchases and for folks that don't accept credit cards should I get Tongan currency? Or is US currency OK?

If I need T$ what are the best places to make the exchange?

Does anyone know if Ovalau Watersports in Levuka is still in business? I tried their phone # and it didn't go thru. I am planning a trip to Ovalau and would like to book something with them.
Thanks.

Hi,
I plan to spend several weeks on the Vanuatu islands these September and October and would like to know the level of comfort in the cheap guesthouses or local families.Do you usually have your own bathroom,is there a western style toilet,is there hot water,is there a sink in your bathroom?
I plan to go to as many different islands as possible and stay at least a few days or up to 2 weeks if I really like it on each. I love hiking, snorkeling, reading, doing nothing, talk with the locals.
Also…

Hello fellow travelers,

My husband and I will be spending 8 days in Fiji in November as part of our honeymoon and despite of all the reading we've done, we still can't make up our minds which way to go. Thus, any advice and all recommendations are very welcome!

We first thought to stay three days on Viti Levu (day trips) and then five days at Blue Lagoon Resort at Nacula island.

Then we thought that perhaps we'll skip the main island and combine Octopus Resort or Paradise Cove with Blue…

Hi folks, I am lucky enough to be taking my wife and our two-year-old son to the Intercontinental for a week next month.

We're splashing out on the hotel (obviously) but wish to save money where possible and straightforward.

It is a princely FJD$300 to take a pre-booked return private transfer from the airport to our hotel, but I'd hate to book this only to find I could (for example) pick up a decent and comparable taxi fare from the airport for FJD$50 one-way.

Can anyone advise on this?

We will have 5 nights in Fiji. We are a retired couple in their 60s. Not looking for night life or having a lot of children around. We will need to learn how to kayak and snorkel. After reading reviews and websites we are leaning towards Nanuya because we can eat when we want to and no children under 7 allowed. We will want to take a boat trip to the caves and since this will be our only island splurge we want it to be nice. What do you recommend?

Hello

I am going to fly to Fiji in the beginning of next month. I am going to stay almost 4 weeks.
I have been thinking to split my time between Taveuni, Kadavu, and the Yasawas.
Will you add any other destinations to my itinerary ?
Has anyone of you visited Vanua Balavu ?

Thanks

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone has recently stayed on Ratua Island. We are a family of two adults & two teenagers looking for a short summer break (approx. 8 nights) & after much research I (think) I have narrowed our destination down to Espiruto Santo.

We enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, cycling & exploring so my questions are:

1) Is there enough water craft e.g. kayaks/canoes on Ratua for the number of guests?

2) Is it easy enough to travel back across to Santo for a day trip?

3) Some…

Hello, we will stay 7 days in Fiji before continuing to NZ next end of October and I have a previous itinerary and some question about that maybe someone could help me about them.

My first idea was spending 6 days in Yasawa Islands (Octopus+ Blue Lagoon BR) and the last day doing the Seaspray boat trip to Mamalucas. But I have been searching about these resorts in Yasawa and they apply a very restricted policy about cancellations. You have to pay the whole accommodation (meals included) at lest…

Hi, I have been to most places in the world . As a Back packer this would be one place I would skip. It is quite expensive and has not a lot to offer that you can't get in other parts of the world at a fraction of the cost .
If you do go though this would be a cheap way to visit . 5 or 7 day max
Fly Upolu. stay 1 night Apia (or sleep in airport if late arrival ) .
Go to Vavaii
Bus to Ferry terminal from airport -10 mins .
catch ferry $ 12 t each way - 1 hour .
catch bus to Manase 2 hours or
Hire…
