Hi everyone,

Myself and three friends are travelling to the Solomon Islands in May. We have booked a flight with Virgin Australia into Honiara on a Thursday afternoon. I have spoken with some people about getting away from Honiara on the Friday as we don't want to stay there for more than one night, and leaving on the Thursday night would be even better!

I've been told that the only boat from Honiara to Gizo goes on Sunday... and that our only real option to get out of Honiara on a Thursday or…

This post was written May 2012(I forgot to put it on then!).However, the details and prices(to some extent)remain unchanged.

I stayed at Noda Guesthouse in Waterfall Village for 4 nights. Waterfall was possibly the highlight of my trip to Vanuatu. It is run by Silas and his wife Vignet. The cook is Jocelyn. As Silas was not going to be on the island while I was there, he was anxious that I was well looked after. I couldn’t have been better looked after; On arrival at the island I was met by the…

We've snorkeled all around Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Banda.... Looking for the next best house reef to stay in one place and explore off the beach every day. Any suggestions or experiences? Somewhere in the Pacific Islands would be perfect!
Thanks!

Does anyone know what the customs restrictions are on bringing food into Fiji?

We are getting a cake made from cheese for our wedding in Fiji and will need to bring this in. It's approx $1000 worth of cheese, so we would hate for it to be confiscated.

It will be travelling from either NZ or Australia.

Thanks

Hi there,
We are getting married in Fiji at the Sheraton - Denarau in August and are planning a 5 night Honeymoon after our wedding to unwind and relax. We are pretty excited, but its time to organise the honeymoon :)

I'm keen to head to one of the beautiful islands for these 5 nights and my budget is no more than $800 (Australian $) per night. I was hoping to get an all inclusive (meals& drinks etc for this price, but its not a must).

I really do want something special and memorable, hence…

Hi, we are three friends traveling to the Solomon Islands for the first time next week. We have a night in Honiara before flying to Seghe the morning after. I've booked us a room at Chester resthouse and a night at Matikuri Lodge but have left the rest to see how we feel.

1) Is it possible to go into Honiara at the moment or should we stay at the airport for the night? Is Chester resthouse okay? And if we can get into Honiara, can you give an indication of taxi prices or public transport…

Post-flooding disaster zones declared in Honiara and Guadalcanal province.

For more information see your government travel advisories. Below is a link to the UK one.

Aid workers are on the ground assessing the situation and doing what they can to help avoid the spread of disease and begin the clean-up operations.

Thanks Laszlo,

for your previous reply. I'm also wondering about the following 3 questions. I have the latest LP guide to the South Pacific, but things change.

Which of the islands covered by this branch are likely to have dormitory accommodation?

Plus, besides the ferry between Samoa and American Samoa, are there any other international ferries operating anywhere between any islands?

Oh, I'm due to arrive in Fiji in about 3 weeks. What's the chances of finding a crewing possibility on a…
