Is it easy to get a return flight to Vanuatu from Fiji on short notice? We'll be flying from Canada to Fiji next February and I'm wondering whether I should book the flight beforehand or wait till we get there. We'll be staying in Fiji for a couple of weeks and in Vanuatu for a week or so - flying also to Tanna. Thanks.
I don't know how much things have changed nowadays but it might be best to book the onward leg to Vanuatu before you leave Canada. I always found that a round trip (from west coast Canada) - to Fiji and on to Solomon Islands and back was cheaper than buying the Fiji/Solomons leg in Fiji. You could check the Air Vanuatu and Air Pacific sites, both fly to/from Fiji/Vanuatu. | 1
I would also recommend booking ahead of time. And if you want to be sure of your Tanna flight(it often sells out), try to book and pay for it ahead of time. We had booked through a local travel agent in Pt. Vila and planned to pay for it on arrival but found that Air Vanuatu had canceled our reservation. Luckily, the agent was able to get us on the flight - I often wonder who didn't make that flight instead! | 2
When I visited, I had a ticket whose dates I could change freely. If you buy tickets from Air Pacific, the fares should be pretty much the same whenever you buy them. | 3
Thanks for the info. I like the idea of being able to change the dates freely since I haven't really figured out where we go or when once we're in Fiji. Definitely want to see Mt. Yasur so will look into booking the flight to Tanna, too. | 4
Mind you, being able to change dates free of charge is subject to the conditions of the particular ticket you are holding, so check when you buy it! I jus wanted to note that seats seemed to be availabl on any flight back then. | 5
