My husband and I will be in Fiji as a wrap up to a month of backpacking in NZ. We arrive on August 9 and depart late on August 13. Our priorities are R&R, beaches, sand and sun, and maybe some snorkeling or cultural kinds of activities. We don't want to stay in resorts full of drunken partiers. Our budget for this part of the trip is around $1000 Canadian and we'd like to stay somewhere clean and comfortable with good food and a double room, but are fine with shared facilities. Given the short time frame, we thought we'd spend our first night in Nadi (as we arrive too late in the morning to catch boats to other islands) and then the next 3 nights combining the Mamanuca (Bounty Island) and Yasawa (Manta Ray) Taster packages from Awesome Adventures. I'm wondering...?
Does anyone have any feedback about packages with Awesome Adventures? As this is the last leg of our journey, it's appealing to me to have something prebooked and arranged so we don't have to worry about it when we arrive - however - I'll search it our and make bookings on my own if they don't have a good track record with former customers.
Is it worthwhile to book the "Full Monty" packages with Awesome Adventures? For these packages it would include a village visit, kava ceremony, and snorkel safari. Or, are we better to source out these activities on our own once we arrive on the island?
Has anyone gone swimming in the limestone caves at Sawa-i-lau? Would you recommend them, given the short time we have to visit? My husband saw a photo of them somewhere and is really interested in visiting them, probably instead of the Yasawas, if they are worth the long boat ride there and back. Can anyone recommend where to stay in that area? How to best get there and back?
I'd also be thrilled to hear any advice you might have about places to stay/things to do during our day (really more like half a day by the time we arrive late morning) in Nadi.
Thanks so much!
