Hi, myself and my partner are going to Fiji from New Zealand just after xmas for 10 days.

Looking at the Yasawas, but can't seem to find any information or pricing on cheaper accommodation in the group of islands so wondering if anyone that's been there recently that could advise and if there is any? It all seems quite flash and quite expensive. We want something more budget /mid-range, but nice. Also, what prices can we expect. Have looked at expedia etc. but that only gives the more expensive options.

We maybe want to stay a couple of different places in that time as I realise it's not very long. We are into all things water, diving, fishing, snorkelling etc etc and just want to have a lovely relaxing time, not too rushed.

Thanks in advance.

Jacky

Try reading the MANY posts here about the Yasawas of all price ranges.
Google Oarsmans Bay, Octopus, Manta Ray etc for direct pricing of those Yasawa resorts. Dorms are cheapest.

Thanks, I have booked octopus for 4 days over new year and am looking at manta ray as a cheaper option and for good diving. Looking online, they only have jungle bure with shared facilities, which have a bit of a bad write up by some on various forums, but sounds like you get what you pay for.

Can anyone vouch for the jungle bure's and food at Mantaray. I don't mind that it's not flash, just don't like DIRTY.

Cheers

Ive heard from others that it is far from luxury but very adequate. Whilst Ive not been onto Manta Ray, I have sailed past. Its in a lovely setting , nice beach and right opposite where the Mantas gather.I visited and swam with the Mantas - wonderful fun.

Hi Jacky, I have heard Manta Ray is a nice place (i am actually booked to stay there preety much at the same time).
About swimming with mantas, must be amazing, but unfortunately this time of the year is not the season for mantas :(
Some other places you can check at the Yasawa Group of Islands: Sunset Waya (Waya Island), Safe Landings (Nacula Island), Long Beach (Mataca Walevu), all of them are about F$70 the dorm including meals.
Enjoy your trip :)

This might be a little late for you - but if you have not made firm plans for the second half of your visit you might consider Octopus Resorts new sister resort now being developed on Nacula Island (further north). It's called Blue Lagoon Beach Resort, and is opening late December. I stayed there recently with the people who are doing the development, wonderful beach & snorkelling, will be smaller/quieter than Octopus but I'm confident will be run to the same high standards.

Marilyn, I assume that the resort that you refer to is not next door to Oarsman's? Where is it? The old Melbravo Resort?
