Hi
I am taking my 60 year old mum to Fiji. She has never travelled to a tropical island before. She loves warm weather and swimming. I'm keen to do some snorkelling, relaxing, massage/spa etc. I'd be grateful if anyone could recommend somewhere good to stay.
We're going on 5 October for a week. Is this an okay time to go?

Looking for accommodation around 3 star - budget to mid range.

thanks
Lana

I'm 65yr and have just done a Blue Lagoon Cruise. It has everything you and Mum would love. Warm water snorkelling, massage and just relaxing. Check the web. It can be pretty costly, but you would not have to worry about food etc. Food galore, it seems youre eating all the time and quality foods. Cabins very comfortable with en-suite. The have a 3day 2 nights, 3 nights 4 day, and a 7day one. Now I was lucky and managed to get a special, so keep checking. If your interested I could check if there are any specials for you around that time. I live in Fiji.

For a real tropical island feel (that's if you are thinking white sand outside your door, palm trees, blue water) stay away from the mainland. I recommend you look at Blue Lagoon Beach Resort in the Yasawas. Beautiful beach, good snorkelling - and you can swim straight ff the beach - great food and new bures. I'll be there the week before - but I stayed there for a night before they started the rebuilding programme so have first hand experience of the place. Usually good settled weather that time of year, the rainy (hot) season starts generally in November. I'm 65 - if you read their reviews you will find it's become very popular with all age groups since it opened last Christmas, your only problem may be getting a booking.

I'm in my 50's and usually stick to the Mamanucas (Castaway or Musket Cove or Plantation island) but this year added the Yasawas - stayed at Oarsmans Bay Lodge - stunning beach - great staff - food ordinary - had great time. Avoid Octupus resort - your mum will love it - enjoy
