Just wondered what there is to do in/around Nadi for a day. I arrive in the morning at 10.30am so will probably be ready to head out by noon. From what i've read, there doesn't seem to be much to do/see in Nadi and so I was hoping for some advise of some doable actvities. Is there enough time for a trip to Lautoka? Or are there any other recommended spots to visit?

Thank you

It's not clear how much time you have, and where you're going after Nadi. If "heading out by noon" means you have only 1.5 hours, then forget about Lautoka - not enough time. Anyway, the appeal of Lautoka is that it's a normal town without a lot of tourism. But it doesn't have anything in particular regarding doable activities (not sure what you mean by that).Lautoka is a place to spend 2-3 days in, just hanging out.

You could hire a taxi driver to take you to the markets---buy a pineapple or papaya for a snack---- or maybe go to the orchid gardens about 20 minutes north of Nadi. The driver will wait for you and taxis aren't too expensive in Fiji.

Markets it is then!
I'll be in Nadi for a day, leaving to the islands early next morning on the ferry. So basically i'll have from 12 noon til night to make use of.

In that case why not head to Lautoka? You can catch a local bus - whichis an experience in itself, especially if you get one with open sides, goes through some interesting scenery (lots of cane fields), takes less than an hour & costs less than $2, The market is bigger & more varied in Lautoka, and the town is, as has already been said, not tourist oriented, which means you get a better picture of how ordinary Fijians live.

I second Lautoka over Nadi town,,, plus on the way back you can stop at the "Garden of the sleeping Giant" and the Sabeto mud pools and hot pools for something different.

Catch a bus there and a taxi back so you can stop at the places I recommended

Thanks everyone for the advice.... I think I will go for the Lautoka option. At least the bus ride will be interesting! :)
