We are planning a trip in August with 6 year old and not-quite 3 year old and a non-swimmer spouse. Have been doing some searching on the net and come up with a few ideas but have a few questions:

Coral Coast: - what are the beaches like? some people mention no swimming unless high tide. Is this everywhere or one or two beaches? Some people say beaches are black is this all beaches or some?
- can you snorkel off the beach (Coral Coast) or do you need to go out in a boat? is the snorkelling any good?
- can anyone recommend a glass-bottom boat excursion? I went to Fiji 30 years ago as a kid and still remember the boat trip we went on
- I've looked at the Adventures in Paradise waterfall tour - is this do-able with kids this age? If not are there other waterfall walks that are suitable?
- Sigatoka River Safari sounds good - is it OK with kids this age?
- thinking of staying at Bedarra Beach Inn - any other suggestions? We don't want a resort because of both cost and kids (not interested in kids clubs - we like to spend time together with the kids having adventures together, not sitting by a pool drinking while the kids do something else). We want to avoid anywhere too noisy as well.
- Also looking at Bouma NP in Taveuni. Any advice on good places to stay on Taveuni welcome. Same questions about beaches and snorkelling on Taveuni as above for Coral Coast - grateful for any advice.

I welcome any other suggestions of things to do with kids this age and a non-swimming adult!

Thanks

suggestions of things to do with kids this age and a non-swimming adult

in Fiji with 6 yr and 3yr and non swimmer spouse spend some time at

Danny's on the Coral Coast http://www.fijihomestays.com/fiji_homestays_photos.htm

your two children will have the best time.

I went there with my 3 children and they cried when we had to leave.

go on Danny's website and click on the independent reviews and you will see what I mean.

I dont want to put the link to the website with the reviews because it is another travel website (lonely planet might not like me doing that)

Naviti on the Coral coast is perfect for kids. Bedarra Inn is okay but all the beaches around Sigatioka area are coral like. Further down the coral coast,Naviti, Warick, Beach house and a few others all have lovely beaches. Uprising Resort on the Coral Coast (Pacific Harbour) has the best beach. They do daytrips up river and out to one of the smaller islands near by where you can snorkel. The sea is lovely to swim in at the resorts but to do snorkelling you need to go out to one of the smaller islands. Tavenui is a beautiful place to go, but you need to travel by air or boat. See the travel agents for package deals, its so much cheaper that way, unless you're backpacking. The only place I've seen a glass bottom boat recently is on the island of Malolo. Yes they did have them in Suva 30 years ago.

Thanks. I'd come across the reviews for Danny's and it does sound like a great option - thanks for the suggestion.

Still trying to work out the best option for us for a few days of beach. I'm keen for some snorkelling and think this would be best as off-the-beach snorkelling so the kids can swim and hubby can wade or they can all play on the beach (rather than me disappearing off on a boat for a few hours). Would Mana Island be a good option?

We just did a day trip to Mana Island and really enjoyed the snorkeling off the beach. The beaches there would be great for the children. Being avid snorkelers we would definitely stay on Mana Island if we get back that way.

Snorkelled off South Sea Island (Day trip) and they have a glass bottom boat there.

I would say Treasure Island Resort would be the best for kids. They have a lot of kids activities as it is a family oriented resort and also a glass bottom boat trip. The snorkelling is good and the non swimming spouse can have as much fun as the kids learning traditional fijian dances and other Fijian traditional things. They also have good packages on a particular website I found like Stay 5 pay 4 so let me know if u are interested!!
