Just left Fiji after an amazing week at the Beachouse. Would have stayed longer but was concerned about the costs after reading various forums. After Australia Fiji is a bargain, we averaged about $60 (Fiji) a day each, including an evening meal and beers. Dorms are $35 and the tent $25 which seems alot, but includes breakfast and an afternoon snack. Add on about $12 for an evening meal and whatever you can drink- beers only $2.50 during happy hour and only $3.50 after. We were getting over $3 to the pound.

Avoid the Nadi downtown packpackers- a depressing place not helped by its aggressive manager. Very noisy during the night and $5 for a small beer!

Thanks for putting up the feedback.

I stayed at the beachouse in March 09 and enjoyed it. Thought it was value for money as well,,, especially the $20 bure massages

Have considered staying at the Nadi downtown backpackers over night for early flights but am glad now that I havent.

Raffles much better choice for early flights, plus its right over the road from the air terminal

Thanks for letting me know about the Beachouse. Everyone on here says it's great, my wife and I can't wait to start our RTW trip there. Did you do anything that made your trip great? Did you cook a lot or just at the cafe there? Any tips for while we are at the Beachouse?

People we met kept saying they were looking for the real Fiji!?!?! Play volleyball at 4pm everyday and just chat with the gardeners and I don´t really see where else you can look- magic! Did the Suva trip which was good, town nothing special but tried Kava in the market (they would not except money) and people were really friendly. Has a kitchen you can use, we didn´t bother as treated it as a bit of a holiday, you can drink from the rain tanks that saves cash. Loved it, sure you could spend lots more but not sure you would get much more than the Beachhouse- enjoy!

The other place we have stayed at over and over again was Nogu Tadra. Its a private holiday home on the coral coast closer to Sigatoka than the beachhouse is. Do a google search and you will find it in the travelmaxia website.

The price included car and airport transfers which made it a super bargin. The thing we enjoyed about the holiday home was complete privacy and we could cook our own meals as it came with a full kitchen, plus having the freedom of a car the whole time was such a money saver as we did our own tours and went to places ourselves saving us tour fees etc.

However the beachouse is lovely if you want that hotel/resort experience. You couldnt get more value for money if you tried.

There is lots to do as well and they will give you advice on things to see and do.

We found a great waterfall experience that was cheap and lots of fun.

We couldnt afford the $99 tour with the local tour company to visit a waterfall so we asked staff at the Warwick what we could do that was cheaper. They gave us directions to drive to a village that was only a 5 min drive from there, so 5 -10 min drive from the beachouse. We only had to pay $10 for the waterfall visit and we choose to hire a horse and guide for an addiitonal $25 pp and it was the best thing we did all trip.

Pm me if you want information,,, have lots of other ideas as well,, we are there every 10 weeks so have experienced lots of things,,, have fun :-)

I think that Thebirchadventure is actually another name for The Wild Boar. When I was in Fiji 2 weeks ago based on the recommendations from the thorn tree I booked a tour with them. After confirming my emails and phone calls the day before from the hotel we drove the 3 hours up to horse ride with this company. Upon our arrival we were told they had given our horses away as they thought it was us even though they had (as it transpired in the resulting conversation) different names and were staying in a different hotel. We were then made to feel very uncomfortable and "Boro" was very aggressive and unfriendly towards us. The worst experience I had in Fiji.

However I must say that the Beach House is great - had a fantastic time there and they can organise horse-riding there without the agro. The people working there are so lovely it was a pleasure to be around them.
