Hi everyone,

I know there have been many threads along these lines but I've been trawling through them and am still very confused!

Question 1: I'm a UK citizen, and in 6 weeks I'm leaving for Australia on a Working Holiday Visa. From what I understand, there is a reciprocal healthcare agreement between the UK and Australia covering "medically necessary" treatment. But what does "medically necessary" mean? Is the RHCA enough (along with travel insurance - I'm considering Outbacker or STA), or…

Hi y'all,

my wife and I will be hitting Australia from San Francisco (CA), for the first time on May 2018;
we have a decent plan in mind, and would love to know what you guys think about it. We love diving and hiking, so our adventure will mostly turn around these 2 activities.

Here is how we are planning on breaking it down:

  • May 20, Sydney
  • May 21-22, Port Lincoln (Great White cage diving)
  • May 23-24-25-26, Brisbane and the Gold Coast
  • May 27-28-29-30-31, Cairns and Port Douglas for as…

Hi all!
I'm just wondering what the Punk Rock Scene is like in Oz?
Are there many Punks, any Locations they meet up at, what are they like? Or is it kinda uncommon over there?

Thanks!

Some are under the impression that climbing Ayers Rock / Uluru is not permitted. In fact it is discouraged but still allowed and there are still plenty doing the climb. According to a newspaper article the park management will not close the climbing trail until the proportion of visitors climbing it drops below 20 per cent.

Back in 1982 I went backpacking to Australia for a year ; I was just 21 years old and knew no one in Oz so I planned on staying in hostels and hitchhiking around ; such were the best laid plans of mice and men !
I arrived on a sunday morning on around the 8th of January and so I caught the train to the western suburbs so I could hitchhike up to the Blue Mountains in around Katoomba ; on the third day I was picked up by a grungy fellow in a pickup truck who I later found out to be Australia's…

Hi everyone,

For weeks I have been looking around for an Antarctica (plus Argentina) travel insurance policy that covers trip cancellation for unforeseen events, natural disasters (and "act of God" - unsure if there is even such company who offers this).

I've searched numerous travel insurance engine sites and called many companies. All of the providers I came accross offering trip cancellation for unforeseen events, natural disasters (on top of usual trip cancellation, medical coverage…

Hi

I posted on here a few months back. Have done a bit of research and have a 'rough itinerary' to work from. I would like some advice on some of the destinations. I have tried to spend at least 3 nights at most locations as I want to avoid driving for too many hours as this isn't always relaxing.

We have revised our itinerary but would like some more advice please.

Arrive Perth 25th Feb

Stay in area 3 nights

28th Feb - 3 nights Rottnest

3rd - 7th March (Margaret River region) We are…

Came across this 2008 ARTICLE about hostels in Noosa and Sunshine Coast having an internationals only policy . I have experienced this myself once at Koala Backpackers. Is it still much the same situation today ?

Just arrived to Sydney and trying to figure out where to spend the next 8 or so days. Currently, the plan is to take a one way flight to Cairns and then probably one or two more one way flights until returning to Sydney. I would love to camp in the mountains at some point, but also want to hit some of the must see coastal areas. I know I'm not working with much time, but it seems like Cairns/Great Barrier Reef is a must and after that, I am open to anything. Also, I have all my…

Hi Everyone,

I'm landing in Sydney in the first week of September for 7 days then flying off elsewhere - wondering if anyone can recommend any must sees or good places to introduce me to the city?

I will be returning later in the year so I'm not in a rush to do everything. Other backpackers get in touch!
