No. And the money isn't that good for unskilled people. Best bet is to take any job to get to site, then look around.
There's a company called (I think, this was a while ago) ESS that recurits in Perth every Wednesday. This is for support work, kitchen hands, cleaners, bar work etc. A friend of mine went along and was offered a job on the spot - at $14 an hour. (food and accomodation included). For 12 hour days it adds up, but it's the most sh*t job on site (been there, done that). BUT you get to know who needs people and can then be available when something comes up.
My friend didn't take the job and is still looking. She's been looking for over a year, despite getting a truck licence and other qualifications.

ok i've worked in the mines years ago but when i was there it was reasonably easy but now its alot harder to get work so cam anyone tell me what companies do all the catering contracts please thanks

Hi,
Best site that has come onto the web in the past year is [http://www.applydirect.com.au].
I noticed that there are currently over 80 jobs only advertised by employers (not the frustrating agencies) on the site for "mining jobs in WA".
I hope you have luck finding a job from o/s.
If you have friends looking for work, it's a great site to tell a mate about.
cheers,
Rolf
I think the wages are a bit better than mentioned above, the young girl that works as the site cleaner and minivan driver at a contractors site in the pilbara still takes home over 1700 after tax, 'dumb truck drivers', like me, average over 40 an hour pre-tax...(construction)
It's all about luck, getting on the contractors camp site as a lowly cleaner would expose you to the contractors who maywell like your work and offer a job
Also if you can get an MC licence equivalent in your home country then get it transfered here maybe there is jobs driving roadtrains.
And it's true above that operators are getting more than their white colla bosses, mainly as all the project engineers are irish, Malaysian, or sth ifrican, and the employers wisely realised they could bring them in on skilled visas and pay less than they'd have to pay locals and they'd still be thankfully for it
