I was searching to see when the long weekend in october is and i came across this website which indicates that in 2008 Australia day will be changed to Jan 28th in all states except NSW. Whats all that about? i have never heard about it before... anyone know?

I think it means that the public holiday will be on the 28th. What day does 26th Jqnuary fall on in 2008? A Saturday?

Once upon a time (a few years back) the Australia Day holiday was always on the closest Monday to the 26th. Then someone had the brilliant idea of having it on the actual day aka the French and the Americans so the holiday being our "national day" was held on the actual day. Because next year the 28th is a Saturday, NSW can't seem to decide what to do but all the others are going with the public hol on a Monday as per #2.

OK, i didn't realise it used to change around like that, so Australia Day will still be the 26th, its just the public holiday which is on a different day?

Yep. Up until politics started getting psuedo corporate and managerial, Australia Day was always celebrated with a Long Weekend.

I am glad to see it's coming back. Long Weekends are an Australian right!
