Where you fly from and to and your passport is irrelevant. The issue is NZ and Australia share police records for immigration purposes. If you had fines from a european country, they probabl;y wouldn't care. The real question is, you can risk it and if you are denied entry, what do you lose? versus paying the fines and knowing you'll get in no problems.

well it was 150 $ for not wearing a seatbelt, 150 $ for hindering the flow of traffic due to my will not to go as fast as i should have and 150 $ for crossing the centerline a few times ( truck driver behind me snitched on me). i just left new zealand by plane and i did not get red-flagged or anything? im sure theres court costs now added to this. dont know about a warrat for arrest since im not kiwi and as i said i travelled a lot to the UK this year and vietnam. i never heard of someone being wanted all around the world for an unpaid traffic fine, even if it turned into a warrant (which shouldve been shown when i entered england x 3 ). i know theyd probably screw me when i would enter nz but i cannot imagine this being connected with me entering australia.
I suspect you are probably right, pas, but nobody here actually works for Immigration (AFAIK) so we'll never know for sure unless you try it, and come back to tell us how it went. Which would be good if you did, because then we will know what to tell others who ask similar questions.

Thank goodness that truck driver had the brain you obviously dont have. There are a large number killed because some prick crossed over the center lane and wiped out innocents coming the other way. And yes, consider yourself a prick!!!

Hey Pas,
I had a similar situation with unpaid fines when I left NZ last year. At the time they checked my driving licence when we were stopped (the WOF had gone out of date) and got my home address from that. They had already written to my home address in the UK by the time I flew from NZ to Oz (so obviously had my details on the system) but I wasn't stopped leaving NZ (which the cop at the time suggested I would be), entering Oz or leaving Oz again.
I wasn't on a working holiday visa but they obviously hadn't linked my fines to my passport. Don't know about the situation a year later as I have not tried to enter Oz or NZ since then.
