Jetstar

Can someone reassure me that Jetstar always overbook their flights? I've just found out that my friend's boyfriend who was supposed to be coming to Australia with us is no longer able to make it. At his instruction I'd already booked him on the flight from Sydney to Proserpine that we're all taking. The ticket is non-refundable, which I knew at the time and can cope with - he'll still pay for it.

Thing is though, I don't really like the thought of the ticket going to waste, but I'm assuming that the flight will have been oversold and that him not turning up will actually be doing someone else a favour. Can anyone confirm this?

In my more than 10 or so years, of flying in Aust, I have never seen any overbooking, no one has kicked up a stink about them not having a seat, on any of my domestic flights.

I have flown Qantas & Virgin many times now, and thought the flight is always full, sometimes I am one of the few last ones on, (own choice), but have not seen any shout/scream.

Jetsaver tix are as the rules you have noted, and yes, airlines do say that they overbook on purpose, but what truth is there in that.

We rely on them to tell us the truth, or er, wink wink, lie!

I have chosen never to fly Jetstar, so can't say about them. But my trips with QF & DJ, no overbookings. Every seat full, and no one standing in the aisle, or shouting at the gate.

Only those in the airline industry would know for sure about the truth or not, in airlines overbooking regularly, or sometimes.

Never have been denied a place on an aircraft in Aust or overseas either.

Cheers for the info.

I'm not wasting my money phoning them from the UK, so I'll wait til I get to Australia and call them then.

Some of those tickets can be used within 12 months if you cancel on time - usually within 24/48 hours. Maybe he'll use it one day so you could check conditions.

Jetsaver?

Still useable in 12 months time? Har, no show means tix dies.

If the tix is a Jetflex, its a different kettle of fish.

It's a JetSaver. I can change the date or the name, for a fee (plus any change in the fare), but I can't change the point of origin or destination.

5

if you can change the name why not advertise the ticket on craigslist--have the person pay the change fee ?

Daycat - there is a typo in your sig line - Please not plese

Jetstar doesn't overbook. Qantas does, like most full-service airlines.
