Girlie Question - The Pill and how can i get it in Sydney

Hey Sydney ladies, i'm shortly arriving in Sydney for 9 months, then travelling elsewhere for 3. My doctor in the UK won't give me anymore than 3 months' supply of the the pill (i use Microgynon 30). I have been taking it for years with no probs so don't know what his problem is but there you go.

Will i be able to get it in Oz? will it cost anything? Do you know if they have Microgynon 30 out there or will i need to change pills?

I don't know this pill but you will have to go to a doctor for another perscription and yes you will have to pay for it. There will probably be something very similar here if not the same one. You will also have to pay to see the doctor. I am not sure how much though.

Have you considered getting an IUD for travelling. That's what i used when i travelled. It was great. This choice would save you both bother and expense.

don't know about 30 but you can certainly get Microgynon here.

If you were in my town I would go to my doctor for you. Perhaps you'll meet someone for you who has a doctor who would do that like I do.

I took Microgynon 30 about 30 years ago. I believe it is still available.

Doesn't have to cost you $50 to visit the doctor.Register with Medicare when you get here (thre are offices everywhere), and go to a bulk billing doctor's clinic. You DO NOT have to register with a particular doctor in Australia as you do in UK.

The script will cost about $32 a month to fill.

Thanks everyone - v useful. In the UK you can get the morning after pill over the counter, but not the pill, which I think is an odd way of doing things, but at least it's free - very enlightened!

Do you have any stopovers on your way? If you're going to stopover in Thailand, say,you could easily and cheaply stockup- even at the Boots in the airports.

Bazza is a bush plumber so might be able to help with the IUD option!!??

try something like a family planning clinic in the uk before you leave?

regarding free contraception on the nhs... I'm not complaining about my free prescriptions but you have to wonder why the UK has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe if it's such a great idea

Why dont you just go to other doctors in the uk, so you can get more than 1 prescription.
Just see different chemists to get your prescription. solved!

have you considered getting a contraceptive implant? they put it in your arm, it last for three years, you don't have to remember to take the pill everyday, or worry about where to get the next lot from, also good as works when you take antibiotics and if you get the shits!!! get it for free from your family planning clinic.... saves a whole load of trouble
