getting around

I'll be arriving in New Zealand shortly and will probably be renting a car and doing some hitching here and there.

Besides that, are there "ride-share" websites and vehicle relocation companies? Plus, in the hostels, are there plenty of message boards for people offering lifts etc etc? Are some hostels better than others for that sort of thing?

All and any websites are very welcome.

BackpackerBoard is a good site for ride shares, etc.

Whenever I fly back in to Auckland (Which is less and less - because I hate the place), I can usually wangle myself a seat down the line with one or other of the airport pick-up companies. You just have to ask around to find out who's going in your direction (Maybe not much use if you're planning on spending time in Auckland city first but why would anyone do that?).

I'm only sticking to the North Island this trip. It might be getting a bit too cold in Christchurch right now!!!
