Does anyone have an idea of reasonable cost for flights to Australia from the UK leaving in late July or early August - we're constrained by school holidays?

Those on sale now seem ridiculously expensive (c£1400) but they've only just come out - what's a reasonable "target price"?

Thanks, Paul.

Have you checked skyscanner, kayak, expedia, and so on? Is your price a return trip?

A quick search shows return tickets London to Sydney next July are around £650 at the moment. I'd perhaps expect to pay a little less than that but not much.

Thank you! Do you know what dates in July this is for - the problem we have is we're constrained by UK school holidays, which are 23 July to 1 September, which may be why it's coming up so much.

Which search site did you use please?

I looked for the beginning of July. The end of July is a bit more expensive but nothing like the figures you quoted.
I always use momondo.com for initial routing but I'd advise always booking directly with the airline if possible.

From Australia to Europe we generally use the Middle East airlines (Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar - all of which are promoted heavily here, and their prices are generally the most competitive with Qantas - around £1,000 return) - and going through Dubai etc is more "pleasant" we find than the big SE Asian ports.

Not sure if they go to London every day though.

Perth tends to be cheaper as it's nearer the UK. We fly with Singapore mostly and it's usually around £600 - £700 in peak season. We also book quite early. Malaysia are also good.

Look at search engines, but the general consensus is always to book directly with the airline, even if it's a little more expensive because it offers a lot more protection if things go wrong.

You do realise that July and August are the depths of winter so the north is warmer then than the south.
