Evening out in Auckland

Country forums / Australia, New Zealand & Antarctica / New Zealand

Hello, if anyone knows Auckland well, we are flying into Auckland airport early evening on a Thursday and staying at the City Lodge on Vincent Street.

We would like to grab some dinner and a drink or two that evening, nothing huge as we are collecting a campervan at 8am the following morning.

Is there a particukar within walking distance of there that can re recommended? We want to be able to walk.

Thanks

Theres places down at Viaduct Basin. Cant think of the name of the place where I had a nice meal. Head towards the bridge and you've got Hammerhead and Bill Fish.

Not cheap, but would be worth it, if you can afford it.
Ps, to WW (by the way), I am making another few odysseys to Auckland, Christchurch & Wellington, so am learning more.

There are several nice places in Vulcan Lane off Queen Street between Wyndham and Shortland sts. About 1km walk from where you will be staying. A little on the pricey side, but very good food!

Thankyou to everyone for your suggestions, I really like the sound of Viaduct Basin, so that may well be a good option.

I wasn't going to go for a pricey meal, however I am now re-considering after seeing the Sky City Restaurant. My partners birthday is the day before and I like the fact that you get free entrance to the sky tower too. Hmm decisions.
Thanks all

As the Line Manager would know, I was really **** scared before going to NZ for the first time, about 2 years back, had heard some scary stuff from a Maori work colleague, and what I read on the online version of the newspapers (NZ ones).
I am not saying things don't happen, but I was pleasantly surprised.
As westwood would know, I was pleasantly surprised, shocked partly too, that I was of all things, left alone, ... unlike my "home city" in Adelaide, Aust!
Even later into the night, and early morning, there were people around!
I have stayed on Albert St, and Queen St, Auckland hotels.
Enjoy NZ!
I am going again, 4 times.
I am not saying that the Orbit is a must, and Commissioner has good tips too, I see a lot of Asian eateries around, Wellesley St has a Countdown, good to get groceries for the campervan trip.
Many superettes too, minimarts.
Travelling into Auckland CBD, rather than the fast Supershuttle, which is $$$, get the Airbus Express, for NZ$16 per person per one way trip.

The Airbus Express uses the main roads, but not the direct route to the CBD, I have used both, but will now be using the Airbus from now on. Passes more the suburbs and the roads that show what a lively city Auckland can be!

On the route the Airbus takes, you get to see so many restaurants, Asians ones at that, out in the suburbs.

Not that I am spruiking for them mind you.

All that for just a request for a place for dinner!!

Touche!
And that is why I give you the title of Line Manager, and not given lightly at that.

Thankyou very much everyone, I think we will get the Airbus. We will probably drive to a supermarket once we have collected the van, but appreciate the tip
