Christmas at National Parks

Country forums / Australia, New Zealand & Antarctica / New Zealand

Does anyone know if the national parks in New Zealand closes on X'mas day and Boxing Day? We plan to see the Crater of Mt Ruapehu and Tongariro National Park on X'mas day and boxing day and don't want to be disappointed when we get there.

Thanks!

To answer your question......no, the national parks don't close on xmas or any other day of the year.

It's public land so technically even if DOC put gates or somesuch at the entrance there's no way they could stop you.

And yeah, Ruapehu's a little feisty at the moment......I'd let him calm down for a year or so before stomping all over his head.

Heh - yep, they round up everyone in the park and kick em out for the day.
