I have applied for a tourist visa for me and my son to travel and have a vacation as son and mom for the first time together outside the country.wasnt able to bring him last year to thailand bec of his basketball game schedule. Now that i have savings and sooo eager to see lots of wild animals (my son loves science). I applied thru out agent in australia last july 13 and the status is still received. I wish we could leave asap and come back before xmas so i could still earn more money with my business here bec the holiday. I cant wait to see my 8 yr old sons face when he sees these big tall huge scary animals :)

Hi Darlene, there can be a significant time for people from some countries in getting visitor visas for because of past history of people overstaying visas and also even working illegally, more stringent checking is often involved to see that people have what the expected level of financing ought to be and also that some form of ties to their homeland can be shown - in your case, if you have a business, that is good but then without being a paid salary earner, it may be more difficult to show your finances but a healthy bank account ought to suffice.

All these checks do take some time and for Indians for instance, because there had been a huge increase in visas being sought, their processing time was at least a month and some people were even waiting towards two months.
As well as checking re progress, there is somewhere in the immigration info on line where people can check just what is the normal processing time and then if you add a couple of weeks to that you might be about right.

So what part of Australia are you travelling to for with the big tall scary animals, you probably need to visit zoos, Taronga Park ZOO on Sydney Harbour a good one where you can actually do a sleep over inside the Zoo but fortunately not in the animal cages and weather might be better there than in Melbourne where it'll likely be a bit cooler but still a good zoo there and also wild life parks at both cities, Melbourne having the Werribee Safari like Park as well.

There are a few locations where you can get to see kangaroos in the wild by doing tours.
Hopefully, you will get your visa before too long.
