Auckland accom for 3nts 1 person at Easter

Country forums / Australia, New Zealand & Antarctica / New Zealand

Can anyone recommend accom in Auckland at $100 -$150 a nt for Easter ? I would like to be close to the sights but not in a noisy, busy place/ area. I am mid 40s, active and female. City Centre incl Via duct area vs Parnell, Ponsoonby (spelling ?), Newmarket.
I am also interested in a half - full day tour to the nearbt island Waineke (spelling?) and lunch at the Ta... winery. Any tour co. suggestions
Thx, jomw

Unless you take the very high, 20 floors up Crowne Plaza, you will hear a lot of street noise. $$$$$$ for the Crowne Plaza though.

I stayed at the Scenic Airedale, cheap as chips, right in the centre of Auckland CBD, close to the airport shuttle, both Super and the other one, walkable to everything, ... but noisy. Street noise from the beep of the street sweeper, and noise from people.

I would stay there again the next time I am in Auckland.

One trip in July, I just have enough time for an airport stay, but down the track, Scenic it will be again.

Auckland is flattish, to walk from Airedale to the Harbour, and has a Countdown close by, and a New World close by as well.

I think, its better to be in a place where there are lots of people, than few.

And yes, when I went in 2012, it was Easter, when I went again 2013, it was March. Note that a lot of shops are closed for the Easter period.

If flying in, just catch the Airbus (I think that's the name-Nzd$16 to the driver for a one way journey), Supershuttle is nearly Nzd$26 per one way.

I spent 2.5 days, Easter Good Friday to Easter Monday, and yes, got to Newmarket by bus, as they were doing works on the rail line.

Went out as far as New Lynn to by train, just to see what it felt like to use the train service (during my 2nd trip).

I had heard a bit or quite a lot of rumour, about Auckland, but in the end, though I saw a lot of street beggars, they just sat outside shops, they don't pester people for money.

In one of the parks in Devenport, I saw a person singing his head off!

I don't drink, so didn't go on a tour to a winery, so can't recommend a lot that way, but Auckland is ok, as one of our colleagues will attest, I was a scared little seaslug before I first went over.

I liked it so much, I am going over to NZ again 3 times this year.

Quest on Eden St, Newmarket, (not that I stayed there-but went to that suburb several times), has eateries close by, and if the trains are running, great way to get around, if they stop the trains this Easter again, there are always buses, lots of buses (one of the link buses, orange/green link buses that link the suburbs to Auckland), as well as normal route buses.

Its a bit quieter than Auckland CBD, and cheaper too, the Quest is only Nzd$100.

Theres some good deals [here|http://www.wotif.com]. I'd be checking some of them out. Also have a look [here|http://www.trivago.co.nz] I'd opt for City Center but I like to be in the middle of things when on holiday.
