Airport - Gold Coast - Brisbane Roma St - Airport

Country forums / Australia, New Zealand & Antarctica / Australia

Hi
I am from Malaysia. I am looking to visit these places in Sept.
I plan Airport to Gold Coast Vibe Hotel- hope that someone can guide me where to buy the tickets and which coach company [I heard it's Greyhound]at the international airport.
From Gold Coast I plan take train to Brisbane Roma St - where in Gold Coast to buy the tickets?
I heard Roma St easy go airport by train, is this correct?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

You will be able to buy a bus ticket or a shuttle ticket or a train ticket from Brisbane International Airport to the Gold Coast ... not a problem at all. I would use a shuttle (Surfside or SunState and others - doesn't have to be Greyhound).

From the Vibe Hotel Surfers Paradise you can catch a bus to the train station (Nerang) that will take you to Roma Street, and from there catch the train out to the International Airport. But why do that? Just catch a shuttle bus from Surfers Paradise direct to the Airport.

Thank you so much. I will check on Surfside and Sunstate and see which is cheaper in terms of fare, time schedule and time to reach. Thanks again.

2

Yes, check what the shuttles cost but it is an airport to hotel service.

Alternately, you can get the train from the Airport direct to the Gold Coast with stops at whichever station is closest or has better bus connections, the most common bus route between the coastal area being up along the Gold Coast Highway to Helensvale.

Thank you so much. I will also check on this.

So the guys up there already answer most of your questions but I want to add if you are traveling Brisbane in September there is an event there which is the Australian Flowers Week and Flower Festival. If you are fond of flowers and whatnot can try to see the event as part of your destination. You can search online for the details and the events. I'm sure you'll have fun, Christensen's Flower Auction will be one of the sponsor of the event.

5

Thanks very much. I'm not much into flowers but thanks for the info.

6

one think to consider, depending what time you arrive and depart, the train does not have traffic holdups like the road.

7

Thanks. My idea of coach and train is to enjoy the different scenery along the route.

8

The train will be better for what limited scenery there is, the road being a three to sometimes five lane drag strip on which you can get to see heaps of cars, trucks and vans etc.

Thanks for much for waking up to the fact of a possible traffic jam and I would end up wasting my time stuck in the coach. It's my first time there.
As I am trying to be better prepared than to get lost in the airport on my first day, can I trouble you or anyone in this forum on some specifics - like from the airport which level to get to the train station? And from Nerang Stn what bus to take to vibe hotel, surfers paradise? I am ploughing through some travel books but I am not able to get specific answers.
So sorry for asking basic questions which to me, are essential questions.
Thanking everyone in advance.

You really can relax ... Brisbane International is not a large airport - you will not get lost. Plenty of signage.

And just catch the 740 Bus from Cypress Avenue to Nerang Station (the bus will say Nerang, or Nerang Station).

" like from the airport which level to get to the train station? And from Nerang Stn what bus to take to vibe hotel, surfers paradise? " . OK, some specifics for you:
1. See about getting some Aussie money from your bank before you arrive or just withdraw some from an ATM on arrival.
2. Do not try and smuggle any of your favourite food with you, a good part of travelling is always to experience some of the food where you are visiting and many foods are not allowed into Australia - snack foods in wrappers or packages are OK but on your arrivals card you will be given while you are on the aircraft, you must declare any food, even chewing gum - anything that goes in your mouth is food so if you have something, just tick yes.
Make sure you do not have any fruit and after you leave the aircraft there are usually some bins where you can get rid of any fruit, even half eaten fruit or apple cores or banana skins etc.
No drugs, no knives, no throwing weapons or anything like that to be in your checked luggage.

  1. So you have got through immigration, cone and got your luggage and you come out of customs - welcome to Brisbane - you will be at ground level and look for signs to say train or station ( look for an ATM to get some money if you did not bring any Aussie $$$$ ) - they'll not be far from you and you will see a ticket machine need to go up some stairs, an escalator or a lift to next level up and with signs and people all heading in right direction so you follow and you will cross an enclosed walkway, about 100M above carpark and roads etc.- other end is the station and if you have not got a ticket, you may be able to buy one there.

  2. There will be a sign on the platform re what next train is, some just go to the city so you might have to wait for the next one for the Gold Coast, an announcement should be made and the train will show Gold Coast on the front.

Go to Nerang Station.

  1. So at Nerang Station, a small station, you walk down the ramp to the carpark area and you will see where the buses are - the bus network - https://translink.com.au/sites/default/files/assets/resources/travel-information/network-information/maps/140721-gold-coast.pdf

You catch bus #740 - It crosses Ferny Ave. very close to where the Vibe Hotel is, so it will not be very far to walk from closest stop.

The other way to do it would be to take #745 which takes you to what is called Broadbeach South Station - just for buses where you can change buses - you would need Bus#705 which goes along Ferny Ave.
