My best friend is FINALLY going overseas for the first time, Aus to New Zealand

It's a day after her birthday so was hoping for some advice on a brilliant birthday present to have set up for her...

She loves sports, animals, wine, cider, trying new (non scary bungy jumping) things, loves the water....

And she'll be on the Northern Island of NZ for the last week of November....
I still have yet to finish her wedding present (married june 06) so she expects nothing!!!

Pardon my ignorance but when is rugby season in NZ? Travelling from Ireland to NZ with my boyfriend in August to mid September and was wondering if we could catch a match while we're there...

currently in NZ on a 1 WHV, been working for about 3 months and planning to head over to OZ within 3 weeks. Heard that there is some form you can file through the IRD dept. that will give back some of your tax that you've been paying on. Does anyone know how to get this form? Is it online or can it be obtained at the airport?

England next NZ tour has just been announced, with some suprising venues, being Hamilton, Wellington and Napier, in that order next March.

Have not yet bought ny usual LP/Rough Guide, but had a quick look in the shop today before ordering on Amazon !

Aware that Napier is small but pretty, but the views on Hamilton are mixed. Wellington I understand will be fine for good nite life at least.

Only 3 days between the Ham-Wel matches, and then 4 days bewteen Wel - Nap.

Any thoughts on these places, and…

Hi, what's the easiest way of getting from Hanmer Springs to Kaikoura? I don't drive, so renting a car sadly isn't an option. I can't seem to find much info on transport between the two..... and I was wanting to stay overnight at Hanmer Springs on Day 2:

Day 1: Arrive Christchurch
Day 2: Christchurch -> Hanmer Springs
Day 3: Hanmer Springs -> Kaikoura
Day 4: Kaikoura -> Christchurch
Day 5: Christchurch -> Queenstown
etc........

The other option is:
Day 2: Christchurch -> Hanmer Springs -&gt…

I am an older woman going to New Zealand in August (yes, I know it's winter but I am a teacher so I have no choice) for the first time alone. I am on a fairly limited budget and am looking for some places to stay. At the moment I am thinking of renting a car in Auckland and travelling south first to Christchurch, then back up to Wellington and Auckland again. I'd welcome any suggestions.
