Hello everyone! A few friends and I are planning to go to NZ for two weeks in October. We still need some help narrowing down some travel ideas.

What is set in stone is to fly into Christchurch on Oct 8, and fly out of Auckland Oct 21 or 22. We're trying to hit a bunch of locations and are flexible, but we have a general itenerary. We are planning to go to Queenstown, Milford Sound, Fox Glacier (and Franz Glacier and/or MT Cook if possible). Then, around Oct 12, Ferry into Wellington…

My flight from the United States is scheduled to land at the Auckland airport at 5:30am. The Nakedbus I want to catch leaves the international terminal at 6:40am. Will I have enough time to make it from the plane, through customs, and to the bus stop? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Big birthday

I will be in NZ with my boyfriend for his 40th birthday early next year. I am arranging the obligatory skydive and bungee jump, but I would like to arrange something romantic and thoughtful too which he will probably appreciate more than throwing himself out of a plane :-)
I am open to suggestions on either island, so all suggestions are possible. Any wine related getaways / interesting glamping/ amazing hotel/ spectacular camp site, anything.

Thank you!

I'm heading to New Zealand in the middle of October for 4 month, maybe longer. I'm wondering if its a better idea to purchase a vehicle or a bus pass. So far I've looked into bus companies like this:

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Hi. I'm interested in visiting Waitomo Caves and perhaps doing some blackwater rafting when I'm there. I thought I would take the bus from Auckland (my entry/exit point) to Waitomo, do the tour, and then head out to Rotorua. I can't seem to figure out how to fit it in one day. The early bus from Auckland arrives at Otorohango at 9:30 a.m. Then I believe I have to take the shuttle to the caves. I'm interested in the 5 hour tour offered by Blackwater Rafting Co, which is at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m…

I am trying to fund what the difference is between "New Zealand Travel Guide" and "Discover New Zealand Travel Guide" - both Lonely Planet guidebooks.

They both seem very similar and I can't figure out the main differences to them.

I am looking for an in depth guide on NZ.

I have decided on this tentative itinerary, and need help from the experts to finalize it. We are renting a car and doing a self-drive. I know it's ambitious, but we have only 14 days and want to see as both islands.

Day 1 - Arrive in Auckland in afternoon. Overnight in hotel.
Day 2 - Auckland to Wataimo Caves. Drive to Rotorua. Overnight in Rotorua.
Day 3 - Rotorua.
Day 4 - Depart Rotorua to Lake Taupo. See sights and drive to Whanganui. Overnight in Whanganui.
Day 5 - One day canoe…

We'll be in New Zealand for 2 months (Oct and Nov) traveling around both islands. I'm trying to decide on the best way to handle both internet and cell phones while there. Both my wife and I do need to stay in touch with the US - and by using the internet and our cell phones we can manage to spend 2 months away from home.

On phones - I've decided my iPhone won't normally be used for data/internet - just receiving and sending texts normally. For telephone in New Zealand, I'm unlocking my…

Hi!

I'm currently planning my itinerary for the north island.
Some background - I'm planning to arrive to north island on December 15th after a 6 week trip on the south island.
I will be leaving Auckland on Jan 5th on an early morning flight, which leaves 21 days for the north island, starting from Wellington ( I can add a day or two, if needed). I will have a car.

My current plan is (not by order):
Wellington - 1N
Tongariro and Taupo - 3N
Rotorua - 1N
Bay of Islands - 3N
Coromandel - 3N
