Rototua in my opinion is over rated, unless you are REALLY in Geo science. That town is kind of Lame.

The ferry is one of the prettiest rides I've ever had, adn Wellington is a great city. In good weather it has great views all over, loads of things to do and see, and in bad weather the cafes and museums are well capable of filling a few days
