Hello fellow travel enthusiasts!

I'm a Canadian university student who has recently been accepted to a 5 week Environmental Science in Australia this coming June-July. I couldn't be more excited! I have never been to that side of the world and figured as I'm there I should do as much exploring as possible. After the course is done, I would like to spend 2-3 weeks travelling. Maybe hop over the New Zealand! I will be doing the majority of my exploring in August and I understand this may not be the most ideal time as its the winter. Regardless, I wanted to reach out and ask others what their recommendations would be for New Zealand in August? Thank you folks and happy travelling!

Seriously, depending on where you are, you'll either get rained on or snowed on.

Which is not nice.

Of course it's worth going. It's one of the great winter destinations. Just the weather is excrement is all.

So not worth going at all? Not even for the scenery or winter sports? Thanks :)

New Zealand is fabulous, and it will be Winter, but in many areas that just makes it more spectacular. NZ winter is not like North American Winter, in most areas, even on the south island, roads will be open, and only some of the passes will occasionally be a problem.
It's a spectacular country., but hard to see in 3 weeks, let alone 2. I'd pick a few highlights and see what you could fit in. Most tours would include Bay if Islands, Rotorua, Wellington, West Coast Glaciers, Queenstown and Milford Sound and Mt Cook

3 weeks for travelling Australia and NZ? Try three months.
If you're going to do NZ for a week anyway, at that time of year try Queenstown, for skiiing and views.
