i'll be arriving christchurch in March 17. i'm holding a working holiday visa(6 months upon arrival). Was thinking of working first and then i can save up $ and also can take time to figure out how to navigate around the country. However if i take march + 6 months it will be september, but the tramping period only starts late october. Which means i have to re-apply visa (subject to approval). Thus i am hesitating whether i should play 1st or work 1st. Anyone can advice ?

What country only gives WHvs for 6 months? Unless you are from Singapore.

This question is aimed to the OP.

I'd always try to work first. There's a bigger chance you can extend your stay if you show employability and or have a good work track record here. There's a ton of knowledge you can learn as you go - maybe even save money while tramping after you've learned the low cost things you can choose. It's too cold to go tramping over the next 6 months (april - through to winter)...

thanks for the advice guys. i'm just worried the extended visa is not approved, then i'll have to leave the country before i even explore it.

See what the conditions are for the 2nd WHV. Make sure you have enough money to support yourself.

Have a look [here|http://www.picknz.co.nz] and maybe [here|http://www.trademe.co.nz] for jobs. As many dollars as you can.
